How do I choose a club when they all look so great?
The OHSF's nine member clubs each has something special to offer prospective members. Choosing the right club may not seem easy as there are several things to consider when making your decision. Your first decision is whether to take up sailing, windsurfing or rowing! Choose among the six sailing clubs, the Toronto Windsurfing Club or Hanlan's Boat (rowing) Club. Kayakers, canoers and sailboarders are also welcome at Water Rats Sailing Club. (Power boats and jet skis are not accommodated by the Federation's clubs.) |
To Own or not to Own
Some of our clubs require you to have your own boat while Mooredale, St. James Town and Westwood clubs are community- run, each owning their own fleets of boats - perfect for those who want to take up the sport of sailing but cannot afford the expense of owning or storing a sailboat. Hanlan's offers club-owned rowing shells, as well as storage for member-owned boats. Being a member of these clubs also means that you can learn how to help out with the maintenance of the community-owned boats. |
BUT PERSONALITY IS IMPORTANT
A co-operatively run club is nothing without its people, since it's the volunteers that make everything run smoothly and create the atmosphere. Each club also has its own unique personality and social dynamic.
You'll have a lot more fun if you join a club with people you can become friends with, so when checking us out, take a moment to meet and greet the members of each of the clubs, to see how well you will fit in. Choose a club |
