About Our Club

For over forty years, Westwood Sailing Club has been providing affordable access to sailing in Toronto. Westwood is an adult recreational sailing club, a sailing school, a place to meet new friends, and a fun place to spend the summer.

Unlike a yacht club, Westwood is rustic and laid-back, more like a cottage in the city. Our not-for-profit community club offers several sessions of adult sailing lessons. A clubhouse, barbecues, picnic tables, organized social sailing, racing, and a lively social scene round out the effect.

Sail all summer long without the expense of owning a boat.

Types of Boats

  • 15 Albacores - 15 foot long two sail, two person boats that are used for training, social sailing and racing
  • 4 Lasers - 12 foot long one sail, one person boats for social sailing
  • 4 Hobie 16s - 16 foot long catamaran with two sails and double trapeze for two or three people.
  • 2 Power boats to supervise sailing lessons; run races; and provide quick support to any sail boats needing assistance

Services and Programming

Recreational sailing: Once you know how to sail (White Sail III or equivalent) you can sign out a boat anytime and go for a sail. There are almost always boats available to sail. Sail on weekends as well as days and evenings during the week.

Lessons: From May through July, White Sail III beginner courses are offered in the Albacores using CYA instructors so there are many opportunities to learn to sail. Lots of new members each year have never sailed before. In addition, there are Bronze IV classes for more experienced sailors. And weekly, there are free, more informal rigging clinics, laser and hobie sessions, as well as weekly on-the-water skills improvement sessions for all levels of sailors.

Racing: There are weekly Friday Night Albacore races from May to Sept. On weekends during the summer there are several one-day regattas hosted by different clubs, as well as a Sunday afternoon Harbour Masters series.

Social: Relax, meet new people and enjoy the summer. Our clubhouse is on Lake Ontario in the Outer Harbour between Cherry St and Leslie; with free parking. The clubhouse, outdoor deck, picnic tables, and barbeques are a gathering spot after sailing. Thursday night dinners are hosted by club volunteers. And frequent social events include Westwood traditions, such as a Pig Roast and Champagne Brunch.
