Safety Standards

The Outer Harbour Sailing Camp adheres to safety standards set by Sail Canada and Ontario Sailing. Coaches for sailing commit to following Sail Canada’s Coach & Instructor Code of Conduct. The instruction for sailing is provided by qualified and insured Sail Canada coaches who undergo extensive training covering risk management, lesson delivery, powerboat operation for coaching and rescue purposes, and first aid, including CPR. All Sailing Camp staff undergo criminal record checks before commencing work at the Outer Harbour Sailing Camp.

Youth Code of Conduct

In preparation for the Sailing Camp, all staff members partake in preseason training annually. Additionally, participants in the Sailing Camp are encouraged to follow a Youth Code of Conduct, promoting active participation, responsibility for behaviour, adherence to instructions, a positive attitude, kindness, respect, preparedness with appropriate clothing and equipment, cleanliness, and a prohibition on the use of electronic devices.

The Sailing Camp aims to provide a high-quality, inclusive, and integrated sailing experience for youth in Toronto, emphasizing sailing enjoyment. Participants must observe the organization’s rules and procedures. Prohibited activities include abusive language, possession or use of alcohol or illegal drugs on our property, bringing dangerous materials, discourtesy, harassment, violence, conduct endangering others, policy non-compliance, bullying, and failure to cooperate with supervisors.
